burying vine
When does everyone bury their vines? Do you bury as the vine grows or do you wait until it sets a fruit? Thanks in advance.
Lorie
Start to bury the vine at each leaf vine intersection right away. As soon as each spot touches the ground anyway. You usually have to wait a few days for the secondaries to grow long enough to hit the ground. As fruit set and start gaining size you must carefully cut the tap roots at the leaf intersections at the pumpkin and at least one to each side. This allows the vine to lift as the pumpkin grows. If you don't allow the vine to rise with the pumpkin, it will tear itself right off of the vine. If you know you are going to cull a particular fruit don't bother with cutting the tap roots, just cull it before any damage is done.
Hope this helps
