SE MN Pumpkin Update

After I remove the remay (row covers) from my pumpkin plants, I use Sevin dust
to protect the plants from cucumber beetles. This works well for me. Once the
plants have a little size, I use Triazicide (Spectracide) Insect Killer
Concentrate to spray the plants for both cucumber beetles and squash vine
borers. This concentrate MUST contain the active ingredient Lamdba-Cyhalothrin
to be effective for the squash vine borer. Triazicide can be purchased at
garden stores or Home Depot.

Just like Dave Bhaskaran's plants, my plants are way behind the 2007 plants.
May has been a cool and cloudy month here in Minnesota. Last year, May was
sunny and warm. As soon as the sun come out and the temperature warms up, the
plants should just take off. The plants are starting to vine and look healthy.
Here are the pumpkin plants in the patch this year:

1) 1445 Marsh 07 -- 1231 Pukos 05 x 1139 Sherwood 04
2) 1384 Holland 07 -- 1142 VanKooten 04 x 1161 Holland 05
3) 1204 Daletas 07 -- 1228 Jutras 05 x 898 Knauss 01
4) 1125 (UOW) Heyne 07 -- 1006 (UOW) Heyne 05 x 1269 Marsh 06
5) 1065 Heyne 07 -- 1068 Bhaskaran 06 x 1006 (UOW) Heyne 05
6) 1028 Wells 07 -- 998 Pukos 05 x 1446 Werner 06
7) 843 Heyne 05 -- 1420.5 LaRue 04 x 1446 Eaton 04
8) 746 (EST) Heyne 07 -- 843 Heyne 05 x 1068 Bhaskaran 06

The 746 Heyne should produce a beautiful orange pumpkin as both the 843 and
1068 were a great orange color.

My best to you all in growing a new personal best in 2008.
