Re: Here come the BORERS!

Chris,
Methoxychlor is probably better than sevin. Vine borers can lay eggs
anywhere but it has been my experience that they prefer the main vine near
the base of the plant. One day I saw a vine borer moth and my first reaction
was to chase him like a mad man and squish him. Then I decided to watch him
(or her) and see what she was up to. I had recently sprayed which didn't seem
to phase the moth as she lit on the plant and crawled along the vine. She
went toward the base of the plant and then did an evil, rotten, low down
thing.........she crawled under the vine and layed a few eggs
on the bottom side where you could hardly see them. Vine borers can be caught
napping in the evening and very early morning. They quite often will lay
right on top of one of the leaves and take a nap. They slow down when it is
cool and are easier to catch. If you think you have borers watch for them
buzzing around during the heat of the day.
