Steve,
Yes, sometimes the plant will grow a new leaves and vine from a what
looks like just a stock. This can only occur if the varmits haven't eaten
the growing bud of the plant.
This year I had a LaRue 500 plant eaten just leaving the stock. I
couldn't believe it. The plant was suposed to be my pollen stock for
several other plants. Well to make a shot story long I fertilized the
stock with 10-52-10 and kept an eye on it for a couple of days. Out it
came, I had a vine shooting out of the stock and didn't have a leaf in
sight.. I couldn't believe it. Thats the first time I experienced this.
I know what it's like to lose a prize plant. That's what keeps us coming
back each year. I had a pumpkin grower friend told me earlier this year
it's never too late to plant. I would like to give you the same advise.
It's hard to look out at a bare patch of ground and wonder could I have
grown the big one there? I would also be glad to send you seed if you are
out.
