O.K., so what are the differences between these different fuingicides? DO
they
all work the same? Do any work better?
If they all basically work the same, then which is safer to the plant? I know
that copper and sulfer would probably be safest for people and the
 environment.
Does everyone here just use Captan because of "pumpkin peer pressure", just
because everyone else does, with no other real reason than that?!
 Just wondering!

What to use,
Captan has been used by alot of us to treat wounds, bad stems etc. Actually
Captan is not the chemical of choice for commercial pumpkin growers. There are
different opinions on this but the one chemical that shows up the most in any
spray program I have ever seen is Chlorothalonil under names like Daconil,
Agronil, Terranil, Bravo. You will also see the Copper Sulfate based formulas
like Cocide. Maneb, mancozeb, manzate type chemicals are also seen. Every state
is different. What can be used in one state may be different in another. It
also depends what you are trying to control. In Rhode Island with phytopthora
problems they use other things. Ask your local plant disease specialist for
the best program in your area. If you don't want to get into a big research
project, use the Bravo type formulas which contain Chlorothalonil. You can
find it in any garden center. Read the label and look for Chlorothalonil.
