Blood meal is a good source of nitrogen, but should be used along with other
natural sources of nutrients to make a balanced fertilizer. As for preventing
diseases, I am guessing you are talking about natural methods, using a lot of
compost helps, and also a weekly foliar feed with dilute seaweed (kelp) spray
is proven to combat a lot of diseases and strengthen the plant, as well as
add hundreds of micronutrients.
