Yellowing leaves and fertilizing

Dear list,

Several of the leaves on my pumpkin plants are turning yellow, but just
on the fringes of the leaves. The area that is yellow is not large, but
the yellow is very intense in color. The rest of the plant looks great.
Is this a case of too little nitrogen? or am I overfertilizing? Is it
something else all together?

Also, when is the best time to fertilize? Just before or after a good
watering? (will the plant take up nutrients better before or after a
good drink?) Does time of day affect nutrient uptake? Since pumpkins do
more growing at night than during the day, does this hold true for
vegetative growth as well?

Thanks
Greg "Titanic Atlantic" Sliwka
