No no no; I agree with you. But can anyone tell me how to corral that
weed from hell........bindweed! I've tried spraying vinegar, pulling, and
tilling & finally had to resort to 2 4 D. Supposedly I have heard that ther
is a bug down Texas way that will take care of it. Any ideas?

2-4-D is highly toxic to Pumpkins! If the temperature goes above 85 it
vaporizes! If there is enough residue present within 100 yards or more the
toxic cloud can badly damage or kill the Pumpkins. The damage looks like
Watermelon Mosaic. I would recommend watering heavily to reduce the residue.
If you have to use a Herbicide use Final (No root/soil action) or Round Up
(can damage plants that are near the root system of the plant you are
spraying). Pumpkins are so sensitive to Herbicides I would recommend
contacting an expert. I have an Orchard meeting at one of the nations top
Herbicide experts in July, Dr. Richard Bonanno. I will try and get some info
for the group.
Other plants that are damaged in the same way: (I'm sure there are more but I
have personal experience with these.)
All of the Squash/Pumpkin family
Tomatoes
Peppers
Roses
Grapes
Good Luck
