My "pit" is a 4 X 4 foot, 3 ft deep hole in which I till and shovel down
into the ground, and as I put the soil back, I mix it with some very
well composted manure... This 4 X 4 ft section never gets walked on all
season long, the soil remains nice and fluffy, never had a root rot
problem, and always find this to be very beneficial..
