I have been wondering the same exact thing re.
pits.
I've often wondered how large they should be, what do you put
in them?, etc.
I would suppose you wouldn't want to change the pH too much or
make it too rich. I have been digging the hole in the fall approx 3'x2.5' deep
and then just making a compost heap in the hole and turning it with a pitch
fork. I also add good dirt 50% from the surrounding area and mix in about 1/4
sand, add some 10-10-10 fertilizer, keep track of pH and that's it.
I still want to know what the consensus is with the Heavy
hitters, and the details? Would the rest of the list like to know? :-)
