Hugh Wiberg's delightful NEPGA newsletter arrived recently with an article
by Steve Connolly, whose 1009.6 last year was New Englands first 1000+
pumpkin. At the end of the article, he has the "8 most commonly asked
questions." #2 is "What did you do differently in the garden?" and his
answer was "Dug a hole 10 ft. dia. x 2 1.2 ft. deep under each plant and
back filled with compost."
