Subject: No seed AG's
I figger I had better chime in on this one too, as I have read a couple =
of environmental reasons why AG's arent throwing seeds, but havent seen =
any genetic reasoning.
I will come back to my hybrid vigor theory once again. Lets look at the =
def. of hybrid vigor again- in the case of AG's its huge fruit size, =
excellent plant vigor, and little or no viable seed production. =
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, what pumpkin best fits that desricption? Must be the =
1190!! Coincidence? I surly do not believe so. =20
I believe that lack of viable seeds is indeed a combination of =
environmental and genetic factors. In some instances the environmental =
factors play a larger part, other times the genetic factors. I checked =
out the background of the LaRue 1010 and it looks like environmental =
facotrs may have played a larger part, but in the case of the 1190, I =
beleive it is largely genetic. =20
******************************************************************************************
why do you believe that the 1190's lack of seeds has something to do with
hybridization and genetics? if what you propose is true, then in theory, at
least some of the 815 Checkon seeds grown would exhibit the same trait as the
1190, and produce little or no seeds, correct? so, anyone out there grow an 815
and experience similar results to the 1190? if not, then i would tend to lean
more to the environmental factor.
