Now I'm confused. I thought digging a pit for the stump and main root
system was SOP, regardless of patch conditions? Is this not true???

Please
respond to
pumpkins
I would only do it if the overall patch is in poor condition and didn't
want to amend the entire patch. Sounds like your in pretty good shape ....

As we are getting closer to planting time ( thank goodness) I want to
bring up the subject of digging pits to plant your seed in. The soil
in both my plots is very fine ( no clay) & when turning over my tiller
can easily sink to a depth of 1-2 ' if you are not careful. Now with a
depth like this is it really needed to dig out a deeper depth. I
really don't want to bother with it since my whole patch has been well
composted & the organic level in one of my patches currently reads
13%. When do those of you on the list feel it is needed & when it is
not needed..........Thanks................Paul
