--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Hazards Identification
Emergency Overview
--------------------------
DANGER! MAY BE FATAL IF SWALLOWED, INHALED OR ABSORBED THROUGH SKIN.
CAUSES SEVERE EYE IRRITATION. CAUSES IRRITATION TO SKIN AND RESPIRATORY
TRACT. POSSIBLE BIRTH DEFECT HAZARD. MAY CAUSE BIRTH DEFECTS BASED ON
ANIMAL DATA. MAY AFFECT THE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM.

Potential Health Effects
----------------------------------

Inhalation:
Inhalation may cause irritation to the upper respiratory tract.
Symptoms may include coughing, shortness of breath and chest pain. Other
symptoms may parallel those from ingestion.

Ingestion:
Highly toxic. Death has resulted from single oral doses of 3 to 13 mg.
Acute effects include delayed appearance of nausea, burning in throat,
vomiting, intense diarrhea, abdominal pain, delirium, hypotension,
hypertension, convulsions, and respiratory failure or coma progressing
to cardiovascular collapse, shock and death. Estimated lethal dose is 20
- 65 mg.

Skin Contact:
Causes skin irritation. May be absorbed through skin with symptoms
paralleling ingestion.

Eye Contact:
Causes severe irritation with some threat of absorption into the body.

Chronic Exposure:
A suspect teratogen: can cause birth defects. May affect reproductive
system. Chronic exposure can cause blood effects, skin rash, and
tingling in the extremities.

Aggravation of Pre-existing Conditions:
No information found.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. First Aid Measures
This material is extremely hazardous. Get medical attention immediately
following overexposure.
Inhalation:
Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If
breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical attention immediately.
Monitor for systemic effects.

Ingestion:
Induce vomiting immediately as directed by medical personnel. Never
give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical attention
immediately. Monitor for systemic effects.

Skin Contact:
Immediately flush skin with plenty of soap and water for at least 15
minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical
attention, immediately. Wash clothing before reuse. Thoroughly clean
shoes before reuse. Monitor for systemic effects.

Eye Contact:
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes,
lifting lower and upper eyelids occasionally. Get medical attention
immediately.

Note to Physician:
There is no known effective antidote for this material. If swallowed,
give activated charcoal to absorb any remaining material in the stomach.
Atropine and morphine may be appropriate for relief from abdominal pain.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. Fire Fighting Measures
Fire:
As with most organic solids, fire is possible at elevated temperatures
or by contact with an ignition source.

Explosion:
Fine dust dispersed in air in sufficient concentrations, and in the
presence of an ignition source is a potential dust explosion hazard.

Fire Extinguishing Media:
Water spray, dry chemical, alcohol foam, or carbon dioxide.

Special Information:
In the event of a fire, wear full protective clothing and
NIOSH-approved self-contained breathing apparatus with full facepiece
operated in the pressure demand or other positive pressure mode.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6. Accidental Release Measures
Remove all sources of ignition. Ventilate area of leak or spill. Keep
unnecessary and unprotected people away from area of spill. Wear
appropriate personal protective equipment as specified in Section 8.
Spills: Pick up and place in a suitable container for reclamation or
disposal, using a method that does not generate dust.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7. Handling and Storage
Keep in a tightly closed container, stored in a cool, dry, ventilated
area. Protect against physical damage. Containers of this material may
be hazardous when empty since they retain product residues (dust,
solids); observe all warnings and precautions listed for the product.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8. Exposure Controls/Personal Protection
Airborne Exposure Limits:
None established.

Ventilation System:
A system of local and/or general exhaust is recommended to keep
employee exposures as low as possible. Local exhaust ventilation is
generally preferred because it can control the emissions of the
contaminant at its source, preventing dispersion of it into the general
work area. Please refer to the ACGIH document, Industrial Ventilation, A
Manual of Recommended Practices, most recent edition, for details.

Personal Respirators (NIOSH Approved):
If the exposure limit is exceeded, wear a supplied air, full-facepiece
respirator, airlined hood, or full-facepiece self-contained breathing
apparatus.

Skin Protection:
Wear impervious protective clothing, including boots, gloves, lab coat,
apron or coveralls, as appropriate, to prevent skin contact.

Eye Protection:
Use chemical safety goggles and/or full face shield where dusting or
splashing of solutions is possible. Maintain eye wash fountain and
quick-drench facilities in work area.

Mike, I've said for a long time that I see an upper limit in the 1500
lb
range. If you want to get past it the good growers are going have to
start
including colchicine treatments. With it I get 300 lbs from 150 lb
seed.
You need to treat the seeds in solution for 48-60 hrs for maximum
results.
What I do is posted in the archives, I think. With my method you can
still
carry on the breeding programs. You only change the pheotypic
displays. I
think you'll get an easy 50% wt increase.
Roger
