The patch I grew in last year is sloped a good bit. Lots of hills here in
WV. I grow just like on level land. I mound soil early on in pumpkin's life
a little at a time in order to level out the pumpkin only. The key is to
level a little at a time. I then put sand under the pumpkin to allow some
form of the pumpkin. I simply mound a plateau for the pumpkin and then sand
when the pumpkin is larger. Get some help to carefully steady the pumpkin
and easy does it. Just like training vines and stem a little at a time. Use
a south westerly slope if possible to train the vine towards. This is where
it will absorb sun best and the vine will naturally want to grow in that
direction. Hope this helps.
