What do you do with pumpkins? If you really want to heighten your
growing experience donate your pumpkin to a children's hospital or some
other charitable organization involving kids. John Castellucci of Rhode
Island clued me into this (He does this every year) before I grew my DC
record last year. After the Altoona weigh-off we transported the 408 to
Childrens Hospital where it was on display for the month. Near Halloween
we hooked up with a business organization and had a pumpkin painting and
giant pumpkin carving event for the kids. I can't tell you how much this
bolstered the childrens spirits and everyone else's who was involved as
well. It really puts it in perspective ( which we all have a tendency to
lose!) and adds a whole other dimension to the growing experience.
