Dan:
You raised some good points.
I have often thought about the affects growing at or near sea level might have
on fruit size. It is a well known fact that human births tend to weigh heavier
at sea level. No doubt, it has to do with gravity and perhaps oxygen. Same
growing conditions, same results?
This is interesting indeed, as I live in FL, and plan to grow AG's. I am
closer to the Equator than any of the other states, and am near sea level. Can
I expect larger fruit due to these circumstances, also because of longer
daylight hours of sun? Likely not. I think the playing field is level. We may
have a lot of pluses, but soil, trace elements, cool, humid-free nights,
skill, cultivation and other factors balance the scale.
All we can do is grow 'em and see what we get. As with anything in life, a
scientific/textbook approach to AG's probably won't do it for you. Luck,
skill, timing and good, old fashioned horse sense will probably do ya best.
And, don't forget the manure.
Barb
Just thinkin' aloud again.
