   There are two schools of thought on planting in a very hot climate. One is
to start early to avoid trying to set fruit in July. The other idea is to
start late (beginning of July)... so you set fruit Sept. 1st. You still have
two months till Halloween....plenty of time to grow a big one. The one problem
with starting late is that your pumpkin won't be ready for the World
weighoffs, which take place the first week of Oct. If you just want to grow a
big one for Halloween, I would plant around July 10th....the  beginning of
Sept. you'll be packing on the pounds. Or, plant one in March and one late and
try both methods. If you plant in March, with your heat, you will have a
mature pumpkin by the end of July!!
