Re: Fertilizer Mixture

Merlin,
You have hit the nail right on the head. Overfertilization and high salt
levels in the plant will work against you. You may be high in nitrogen and
phosphorous and low in potash and calcium. If you are low in some things, you
don't put everything on. The only way to find this out is a soil test or a
tissue analysis ( where you take a leaf sample and have it analyzed). A test
in the Spring and Fall is good with a tissue analysis in mid season. You
probably don't need a full blown soil analysis twice a year for they are not
cheap. Maybe a basic 5 dollar soil test in the Fall to make sure things are in
the ball park and a detailed one in the Spring before planting. If you get the
fertilizer levels so high that the worms move out, this should be telling you
something. If the worms don't like living there, the roots probably don't like
it either.
