Were city dwellers here and grow 2 plants in about 1400 sq feet. We also only recieve about 5 hours of sun before the neighbors tree get in the way. Damn those trees!!! I often lay at night in the peak of weight gain and ponder ways of getting a copper nail into those trees!!! Then  i'd sleep better  knowing I was getting optimum growth.!! Anyway our best is 662.4# to date and you can do better with alittle luck!!
Go for it you'll love it and you'll be hooked for life!!! Make the most of you soil and 400 to 500 # is with in your grasps!!! take control of vine sprawl  and don't let it run wild!! You are the grower make it grow where you want it to!!!

Hello,

Rookie here (first message), and I was wondering if anyone tried growing
the giant pumpkin in an area smaller than 2,500sq ft.

I have been fascinated with the process of growing the giant pumpkin,
and I want to get involved, but I live in the city and am stuck with the
limitation of a small backyard.

My entire back yard is 3,000 sq ft, and I was planning on allocating max
500sq ft to the plant.  My intention is not to grow a killer pumpkin,
but one that is in the ballpark of about 80-150lbs. in my first year.

These are my questions:
1.  Is it possible given my size limitation?
2.  Will the vines overrun the rest of my vegetable garden? (and
backyard?)
3.  Is it better to have a square or a rectangular area?

There is still snow on the ground here, but I wanted to plan my garden
soon, and any help would be greatly appreciated.  If anyone could share
their experiences with growing in a small area, that would be great!

Thanks,
