Rick, you do not need huge amounts of land to grow a big pumpkin. If you have
500 sq feet youy can well, lots more than a puny 150 pounds.
Get the book, How to Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins by Don Langevin. It
answers all your questions.
BTW, if you do not trim off the vines, yes they will take over your yard, your
neighbors yard, your house and your pets and children.
