Re: Root Bound Seedlings - Advice Needed

Okay, I may not be one of the more experienced growers Beth wanted, but here is
how I've dealt with the cloche dilemma this year. Since I'm in central MD, I
wanted a structure that provided wind and cold protection without over-heating
the plants during the daytime. (today was our 3rd day above 90)

I took 4, 10 foot, 1/2 inch pvc sections and formed a skeleton that was 20'X10'
and is anchored with 3/8" rebar, forming a hooped structure approx 10'Long x
14'Wide x 5'High. For the top portion, I put a 10X10 piece of medium weight
remay over the center and secured it with fabric clips. For wind protection, I
placed posts 10' apart on the outside edges of the exterior pvc hoops and
enclosed the planting hill with 3' high black plastic sheeting. The airspace
between the two allows for adequate ventilation, preventing excessive heat and
moisture buildup, which I had a problem with last year using standard clear
plastic cloches.
