I agree that once a seed has been fertilized, it carries all of the genetic
traits of the parents. However, we started 10 seeds this year from Gerry's
608est pumpkin from lst year that was only on the vine for 30 days when the
plant went down due to vine rot. The seeds look fine , but only 2
germinated and the plants look bad with small, wrinkled cot's. We will not
plant either of them. While they carry excellent genes, they do not seem
capable of producing a healthy plant.
