Two great looking plants appear to have been decimated (or worse)
by swarms of aphids. A friend of mine is/was growing the 642 and
the 729 and called to say that aphids had eaten killed his plants. I
decided to play pumpkin doctor and headed over to see a grim
sight, indeed. The four leaves were 50% dead (brown), and even
worse, the growing end of the vine was dead. We fertilized both
plants, and, as an experiment, I removed the leaves from the 729
hoping to trigger new growth buds. Any ideas on what to do from
here? Are these plants gone? We have started backups, but it's
awfully late (even for a hot climate). I'm wondering if maybe some
rooting hormone applied as a drench might help.
