Re: Problems getting seed hulls to pull off when germinating ...HELP please ????

Warren,

Thanks for the info... but from what I can tell, the problem is the seed is
sprouting but as it pops through the soil it does not release the hull (at
times it strangles the growing leaves inside, I have lost a few prized seeds
to this type of situation).

Thanks again for the info.

David

David,

What I say below should be taken as my opinion based
on somewhat limited experience...:

What you have sounds actually rather normal. Not all
seeds are created equal. Some pop up quickly, and others
seem to need some help. I've noticed, at least up to the
two week stage the ones that pop up strong and shed their
hulls easily turn out to be the most vigorous growers.

For example, of my seven "select" seeds the 842 Mitchell
popped up quickest, and to this day has been my most
vigorous grower. I don't know how this will pan out over
the whole season, but its something to experiment with.

Regards, Cliff
