CucurByte Crew

As some of you know, I have developed what I believe to be an important
tool in the managing of grower, weigh off site, and pumpkin information.
The CucurByte
software is a Windows 95/NT application designed to accommodate pumpkin
genetics fanatics. It calculates and renders hierarchy trees. It
displays progeny and performance statistics by generation. It has a
query builder for extracting and reporting information by user defined
criteria. It calculates weights. It graphs grower and site statistics.
It even allows you to 'rate' seed stock. More enhancements are on the
way. It does most everything a serious grower could desire short of
growing the pumpkins for you or freeing your patch of vine borers.

Unfortunately, it does not enter it's own data. Due to the relentless
efforts of Richard Noffke, we have well over 400 pumpkins and squash
online for over 150 growers. This is just the tip of the iceberg. The
more complete a database we have, the more meaningful and revealing the
queries, reports, and comparisons become.

We have room for 2 or 3 more people on the project to join Rick, Tim
Canniff, and myself in achieving our goal. The required qualifications
are simple :

* Must be running Windows 95, 98, or NT.

* Must have access to a significant amount of data and be able to enter
it and willing to share it with others. This is most definitely a team
project. Additional research might be necessary as well.

* Should be reasonably computer friendly.

* Must play well with others.

The goal is not fame or monetary gain(?!). We are not out to steal
people's information and call it our own. We are not out to overshadow
the efforts of those who have been doing this kind of research for years
and without whom, this software (and much of the sport) would not exist.
All we are trying to do is gather and preserve as much genetic
information as possible to better understand Atlantic Giant horticulture
and provide somewhat of a high-tech knowledge base for those interested
in contributing and exchanging ideas.

In exchange for your efforts, you get a quality application that will
undoubtedly aid you in your quest for a larger pumpkin or squash. Your
ideas for making the software better and more robust are always welcome.
Tim's thoughts are directly responsible for the current 'Progeny' dialog
and Rick has come up with many great enhancements in addition to his
data entry efforts.

After much deliberation, I have decided the software will only be given
out to those on the team. This is due mainly to the prohibitive costs of
proper licensing, distribution, and support. It is not for sale.
