Weigh-Off Time

Why is it the official weighing date this year is October 3? It seems to me
that this is not fair to growers in the South or for that matter to those who
live in an area where there is a huge local fair every year a week or two
before the "official" date. Who makes this date "official" and why should
someone be excluded from having a world record if their pumpkin is weighed on
October 2 or October 4? I understand that the first Saturday of October has
always been the official date but if pumpkin growing is to include the entire
country rather than northern U.S and Canada, why couldn't a change be made?
Maybe something like the last date for weighing would be October 3. We have a
large Fall Festival where I live. Thousands of people attend. We could have a
fantastic weigh-off there but the date is wrong. I am wondering what everyone
else thinks and whether an attempt should be made to make the weigh-off date
more flexible. Any thoughts??????
