Mike, It germinated fairly quickly -- just beaten by the Anderson 634. They
both appeared above the soil in five days. I tried soaking them over night
but a family (minor) crisis distracted me and I left them in their paper
towels two days. It dried out completely crispy and I thought the seeds
were a goner, but just filed the edges all the way around and stuck them
into good sterile potting soil, wetted them and put plastic hot caps on
top. This was all done in a glassed-in room off the living room and I put
them on a table right over the baseboard electric heater. That's it. I
checked them every day and took off the plastic caps during sunny days to
air them out. As the plants grew bigger I started leaving the sliding
windows and patio door in that room open for longer and longer periods
until they could stay open all night with no ill effects. After that I took
the pots outside and left them under a plum tree for about a week to
continue hardening off, then transplanted them into the newly-prepared
pumpkin patch.
It's interesting to note that they've all kept their same rates of growth
-- that is, the Anderson 634 is still outstripping the 977, with the
Anderson 815 third and the Langevin 936 fourth. I kept them under cold
frames at night until today -- the weather has turned quite summery.
