One caveat: lots of critters love cat food - coyotes, raccoons and the
dreaded SLUG just zoom to it wherever it may have spilled, so dig it in
well (and have a strong fence).
By the way, re: the 977 germination, I planted it in a plastic pot on Palm
Sunday, April 5th and it appeared on Good Friday, April 10th.
I totally agree with the anti-peat pots bias. I tried only one seed (the
Macdonald 719) in a (large) peat pot and it took TWO and a HALF weeks to
germinate and never grew as fast or as well as the others. I gave the plant
away today to someone who wants to enter my pumpkin contest in the Fall
Fair. I've now given away five plants and three seeds.

couldn't hurt.
