Re: Andersen 977
Joe,
Sounds neat. I really like the plastic pots over the peat pots. I've never had
any problem with root damage - I use the bigger ones, not the little tiny ones.
Then when the plant just starts to get it's real leaves I push on the bottom of
the pot/turn it upside down & those little beauties just pop right out - no
fuss/no muss! When I first start the seeds I put plastic wrap over the pots but
prop up the plastic so it doesn't touch the soil - most of my seeds germinate. I
like the holes in the bottom of the pot though - that way when you water, any
excess will drain out. Give it a try & Let me know.
So far all my little pumpkin plants are doing well (knock on wood). The A977 is
the biggest so far, then I have another Anderson something or other tied with my
Mr. Pumpkin Plant. And Hue is coming along fine too! I'm curious to see what Hue
produces... Seems like everyone is having trouble starting the A977 - I got 2
seeds & both germinated just fine - no problem! I've planted the second A977 &
it's doing fine too. I started it several weeks after I started the first one.
It's the plastic pot method - no filing edges, no soaking, no boiling, no
freezing - just plunk those little seeds into those little plastic pots (with
starting soil of course!) water, cover with plastic & wait one week!
