Yo Josh,
You are correct about the material absorbing UV rays...you cannot
get a suntan indoors..or in a greenhouse etc as the glass or plastic
covering will absorb the rays.This is why cheapo coverings deteriorate so
quickly as they are taking the brunt of the suns rays. Outdoors the plant
takes this battering with the resulting burning of leaves etc. This also
makes the leaves age faster and they just die of old age a bit earlier than
ones that are shaded. It does not have to be a hot day...just a strong sunny
day.
