Hi Ron,
I wonder how much space is really needed also. This was my first year at
growing one & I grew a biggy with my raised bed. The good soil only
goes down about 1 1/2 ft. I keep hearing about how deep the main root
can go. I decided it was time to dig up my main root yesterday - I was
curious how deep it went. It had dried & decayed somewhat & pulled up
easily. As far as I could tell it really didn't go down that deep - it
went down the 1 1/2 ft. & then went horizontal. I found this
interesting. It seems that it will find a way to grow - one way or the
other. However, my new raised beds I am planning, will be deeper.
