Ken
finally a question I feel really qualified to answer!! like you, my soil
has always been in the 7.2 to 7.5 p.h. range. It's been like that for
years. No matter how much organic matter or manure I added it never
changed. So last fall i decided to see if i could fix this problem after
talking to local fert. places and getting basicly the same answer from
all of them. you add lime to RAISE PH and they said to add SULPHUR to
LOWER PH. but nobody had a clue on how much to add to lower say .5 on
the PH scale. so I did a little looking and found out how much to add to
an acre then the math to figure how much for my garden. my space was 36'
X 36'. which had a ph of about 7.2 last fall. I added 15# of sulphur
hand broadcast on to the top of garden in the fall. till in if possible
but not a must (I think). this is slow acting stuff takes a while to
break down but my soil test came back this fall (1 year after putting
on the sulphur) with a PH of 6.8!!! the first time it was ever under
7!!! so it must have helped!! good luck I hope this helps. we live i
IOWA right by the old MISSISSIPPI and like you it is rare to have that
high of PH. were just lucky i guess!!!
