Re: Gold Rush Pumpkins
Cyndi:
During my visit to the patch of Wayne Hackney in CT summer of 98, I saw his
field of Gold Rush variety pumpkins and was amazed at the size of the stems
and uniformity of the fruit. They make the quintessential jack o'lantern.
I have several pictures of his patch taken Aug 30...gorgeous fruit. Wayne
tells me they are popular at roadside stands.
Another variety he grew with great success was the Tom Fox. These are medium
sized, 8-10 lb. blocky carvers perfect for decorations. They have long
handles and perfectly shaped fruit. Seeds can be obtained from New England
sources. Developed in New England. Johnny's seed catalog out of Maine carried
them.
Wayne can tell you whatever you need to know about either variety. I was
certainly impressed.
