Re: What??? No Seeds???
Deborah,
RE: "...We have 2 Honey locust trees ..about 25 years old...1 male
...1 female....the female always....bears thousands of seed pods every
year...which is a nuisance.... this year ...No seed pods...."
I may have a possible explanation for your pod shortage.
At first I thought it was just a trick to get attention. You know, the
seemingly casual mentioning of "Ramtha" or Shirley Maclaine whenever the
conversation seemed to lull. Scrutiny of those early warning signals
might have made a difference, though... had I bothered to listen. As a
result, I have been paying for my indifference the hard way - with a
rake.
With sadness, I must admit that the lure of "Channeling" proved to be
overwhelming and irresistable to our beautiful Beech tree. If the sheer
volume of pods dropped onto our yard this year is any indication, your
Honey Locust was not the only tree to be "channeled." At least 5 times
the normal number of pods fell (with their slippery seed payloads)
worming their way into our grass like velcro at a lint factory.
Our counselor suggests that next Spring, I spend more "quality time"
with our Beech; maybe take in a movie or something. For now though, I'm
supposed to give the tree some "space" and not try to force anything.
I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much but I am keeping my fingers
crossed.
