Digest is the way to go....
I don't even read my mail. I review my mail via the internet archives. The only reason why I 'm signed on, is to post to the mailing list. If you feel you are never going to submit query, then you should just review the archives.
Many of the big hitters, just read the archives and when they want to post a message, they sign on.... then in a few days sign off.
I see everyday who signs on and off from the pumpkin mailing list.
