Supplemental light

Hello All:
I am new to this list....though I was on it several years ago....probably
late 1996 or so. I'm back!
Wondering if anyone has any experience with using supplemental light in your
patch? If so, how much, what type of lamps, and how close to the plant? I'm
hypothesizing that since in trees the leaves change color in the fall with
diminishing sunlight as the environmental trigger, perhaps I can stop
natural die-back of older leaves in my patch with the addition of
supplemental light at the beginning or end of the day. If I can stop that
dieback, the food factory keeps churning, the pumpkin keeps growing, etc.
Anyone doing this? If so, what were the results?

Anyway, I did a search and saw a thread on this topic dating back to
1999...just wondering if anyone has any more recent info...
