Dear Jim:
I was especially angry to hear of the theft of your son's pumpkin. Yes, the
world is full of amoral people. I am certain the theives live close by and
know your routine. One person does not heft a pumpkin that size and make away
with it quickly. They had to have a plan.
My first thought was to replace the pumpkin for your son. I know how
difficult it is to find large pumpkins, but certainly someone in your area
can help. I don't know where you live, but if you are within driving distance
of the Saratoga Springs/Glens Falls/Lake George region of NY, I know a fellow
with several large (80-120 lb) specimens he would give away. Additionally, I
know a couple of firemen who have soft spots for youth that might help as
well.
Let me hear from you if you think this is a doable plan, and I will put you
in touch with some NICE people who can give this sad situation a happy
ending.
FYI, just prior to reading your post describing the theft of your son's
pumpkin, I witnessed an elderly woman's purse snatching upon leaving the
local dime store this AM ( I was looking for a suitable lamp for my two 90
pounders). The three men who attacked this lady were caught, and the woman
was transported to the hospital with a severe concussion. They worked in a
group, one distracted her, one knocked her to the pavement and the third
snatched her purse and ran.
She was assaulted so hard, her head bounced off the concrete sidewalk,
causing her to bleed profusely from the mouth, nose and ears. Paramedics
seemed hopeful for her recovery. It was a group of concerned citizens who
chased the perpetrators down and apprehended them BEFORE the police arrived.
Good work! (End)
Back on topic, while all crimes can't have happy endings, let's get together
to restore a little boy's faith in humankind and help Jim's little boy have a
nice Halloween!
Contact me by e-mail if I can help.
