Re: breeding rules

It suddenly dawned on me that you pumpkin hobbyists are apparently breeding
mainly for size. Yet something you need to take into account is keeping quality.
Then there are other qualities that different factions might consider important.
    1. Us dreamers also want gorgeous orange color & wonderful shape & we want them
consistently.
    2. For those who tend to use them for boating expeditions, perhaps durability,
resistence to water & ability to maintain boyancy. You might want to breed for a
sleeker, more streamlined shape, if you plan on doing much racing.
    3. Since one of you nutcases is sure to want to try to drive one, you better
breed for balance, maneuverability & turning radius. You probably need to establish
a jont venture for streamlined shape with the boat fanatics. That is, unless you
want to use the ol' pumpkin just for taking the family on a sunday jaunt. But, some
how, I just can't see you guys passing up a chance to race your pumpkins. & I just
know that Marv will have to have a pumpkin sportscar. Then, I guess the Aussies will
have to develop something like pumpkin yachts or battle tanks, just to be on top.
Anyway, back to the subject at hand:
    4. For those with world dominance in mind; in order to set the world up for the
"great pumpkin famine" threat, you need to keep & even improve on the good flavor.
If the flavor declines so that they'd rather eat dried grass, you have a problem.
You need to develop a flavor good enough to "hook" them......then you pull the rug
out from under them & issue your ultimatum. In the meantime, remember, FLAVOR!!!!!
develop irresistible flavor.
Now this initiates its own problems, because palatability usually accompanies
flavor, & palatability also includes texture & tenderness. In order to accomplish
this, you may have to forego the breeding for tissue strength, since this may
adversely affect palatability. Since this might affect the usefulness for pumpkin
sports: The question is would you give up pumpkin racing & boating to rule the
world??
