RE: composting old pumpkin plants
Although I'm sure a composted pumpkin plant contains all the nutrients a
pumpkin plant needs I wouldn't want to do it as any disease organisms that
may have infected the plant you're composting may not be destroyed by the
composting process. Many home compost bins and piles don't generate the
heat needed to kill these microorganisms. If you're comfortable with that
thought and reasonably sure the plant you are composting is healthy it would
probably be OK. But if there was any question I wouldn't do it.
