Do not try to fill the split. This will just trap moisture that will turn
the stem to mush. Chances are that the split does not go all the way in to
the cavity. They look scary but they are not always fatal. I have three
stem splits that look really bad but they are not fatal yet. They best
thing to do is to keep it dry. I use a small fan. I do not use a lot of
fungicide. The main thing is keeping it dry. Did I mention to keep it dry?
