RE: Congrats to The New Ohio Record Holder & A couple questions.

I agree with Rick's take on the 'damaged fruit' with one little addition.
The judges (at Oakland anyway) will have a wire (coat-hanger type) to check
the cracks or soft areas. If they meet solid resistance and don't go to the
cavity, it is 'usually' considered a sound fruit. As I am not a judge, I
cannot say for positive how they will rule. The stem missing is not a
problem.

The Oakland Weigh-off is still on, for Sunday, 12 October. Send me your
address and I will make sure Oakland sends you the rules and an entry form.

REMINDER TO ALL planning to enter, entries must be in by 7 October for this
one.

Subject: Congrats to The New Ohio Record Holder & A couple questions.

Can anyone enlighten me about required stem sizes foe weigh- offs in
general.
The reason I ask is I has the stem rot off a fruit. I Actuall had to " dig
into the fruit" about a half inch to get to solid stem. At that point it is
solid but actually has a recesssed stem. Its been off the vine for a couple
weeks now with no signs of decay.

The other question is more local, has anyone heard any more details about
the
Columbus, Ohio Oakland nursery Weigh off?

Thanks and happy weighing!
