Re: I did Something stupid
I was trimming the vines in my patch and I accidentally cut the primary vine to my largest pumpkin. Right near the stump. Will the roots along the primary vine at least keep it from rotting?
Your fruit will not rot, and depending on how much of a vine the fruit is attached to, it has potential to even grow larger in size. I have been growing "clones" {original plants which cuttings were taken from} for years, and can assure you they can and will grow in vegetative and in fruit size. You may be quite surprised in the final outcome!
I also have one that has a split stem. I don't think it is going all the way to
the cavity.
There should be some plant tissue that is getting infected by now. Clean it by scraping the damaged tissue away, then put a small fan near the fruit {aimed at the split} and let it dry for a day. Then the next day, make up some captan paste {the dryer the paste, the better, runny stuff isn't as effective} and pack it in the split. Keep your fan on it and just keep an eye on it from there... you should be fine up till weigh off.
