too much rain?

Lately here in the Northwest we have got quite a bit of rain.  It seems
like the effect on my pumpkin has been that the skin has become less
smooth. Should I cover the pumpkin to protect it, or not?
 
Also, can anyone from the Pacific Northwest Growers Group tell me if any
recent mailing have gone out regarding the Auburn Supermall weigh-off?
I recently joined the group, but have not yet recieved any information.
