RE: Big Bertha rolls a 7

What are the symptoms of Phytophthora? Is it fungal, viral, bacterial or what?

It is with great sadness that I tell you our pumpkin ''Bertha'' has gone to
her death. Her measurements were 146'' cir 104'' s/s 95'' over the top.Est
weight 807 lbs. I think this pumpkin was more towards the mid 800 lb range.
Phytophthora disease took this plant and pumpkin down.We have tried for years
to combat the disease in our area, so this fall we will be fumigating the
soil.It is an expensive procedure but, I don't feel like losing my pumpkins
every year in September. We are lucky enough to have had a good year so, we
still have a respectable pumpkin to take to Topsfield.Good luck to every one
else the rest of the way.
