Re: Good Luck!!!
Bob,
I seem to be able to grow watermelons better than I grow pumpkins. I
have three watermelons left that are near 35" long and fairly big around.
They seem to be much larger than last years melons. If I were to guess
I would say they weigh in the neighborhood of 100lbs. I would be happy
to beat my last years melon of 80lbs. As for pumpkins we have a couple
of small ones that will compete in our county category but probably won't
be big enough to place at our GPC site. It has been the most difficult
growing season we have experienced in the last 6 years. Now for
watermelons its perfect over 30 days of 100+, not good for pumpkins even
with the misters going for 3 months straight we couldn't keep the plants
cool enough. This is the time all AG growers start to sweat and have a
few sleepless nights. So everybody hang in there and keep them on the
vine.
Good Luck,
Jon Hunt
