Re: Alan Nesbitt grows 765# from 801.5 seed

Matthew-Thank you for passing this info on to us..pumpkins that don't make it
to the "official" scale are AT LEAST as important as those that do. It is
helpfull in finding out about tendencies to split, stem failures etc....all
important in seed selection. It also helps inseed selection for those of us
that don't have the climate/time etc to really push a plant to the
brink....(personally,I'm confident that my pumpkin growing ability will
prevent such a rapid growth rate and avert a potentially season ending split!
(he-he), we know now that the seed can do it . The info I have through
various sources is mostly of successful pumpkins brought to contests....I
suspect a VERY LARGE MAJORITY of 946.5 Geerts didn't do much, but if you look
at what info is available you would think its a sure thing...almost anyway. If
you look at the Anderson 815(now known as the OLD 815)you will see a few good
sized fruits..but from what I have found out most of the fruits had splitting
problems.
We need to know pumpkins that don't make it and why to get a better picture.
Just my humble opinion.....GlennA
