Cathy asked:
<I am hoping that someone has some advice about storing GA-3. Is there a
best temperature at which to store it, and how long can it be expected to
stay viable/usable? I have searched the propagation archives, and found
nothing on this topic. Thanks in advance.>
We sell GA-3 and have had many years of direct experience with longevity.
It should be stored in the fridge. Just ensure you mark it clearly, so it
is not accidentally ingested.
Carolina Biological (from whom we buy it) gives buyers a 3-month longevity
rating.
This is in direct contradiction with our experience. While we buy fresh
stock each year for re-sale, we keep any left-overs for our own use, simply
keeping it in the fridge.
We still have very good results with 2 year old stock, although some grower
friends have reported 3 years of use. 3 years might be pushing it, as
testing on some Thalictrums this season with 3 year old stock did
eventually produce germination at warm, but in much lower proportions and
over a much more extended time frame than usual.
Cheers.
