Petasites are one of many odd plants that decided to have boy and girl
plants. I have been studying Petasites for a while and believe me, it's hard
to find a female in the bunch!!.
Several years back I found a golden foliaged mutation of Petasites palmatus
near the top of Capital Peak outside of Olympia, WA. It is being propagated
by Dan Heims at Terranovanurseries.com . I have found others that may come
out soon, plus a whole host of ornamental mutations from plants native to the
Pacific Northwest.
If I had to guess as to the gender of your plant, I would guess it is a boy!.
P.S. I would never say that a Petasites is drought tolerant, if they do get
too dry, they usually go dormant.
Best wishes,
Chuck
