Your book, Garden Flowers from Seed, imparts not only very accurate
seed information but also shares that illusive knowledge on the quality
of various species and cultivars. It's difficult for the isolated
gardener to know whether they're ordering seeds that are thugs and not
worth their time or space in the garden. Years ago a catalog
description of Achillea ptarmica 'The Pearl' led to years of weeding. I
thought I'd ordered something choice for my garden. Each time I think
'The Pearl is gone it reappears. You're lively commentary on various
plants would have helped me avoid such a mistake. You're written a
highly readable enjoyable book. Thank you.
Do you know whether Antirrhinum 'Jamaican Mist' is a color selection or
a hybrid? My packet of seeds produced all misty peach with hints of
yellow. The colors command a presence not common with pastels. I'll
probably order another packet next winter but will also try to disperse
some seeds around similar colored daylillies. They'll overwinter here
most winters.
Do snapdragons bloom inside in winter? I'm so excited about A.
'Jamaican Mist' that I may take a few cuttings of favorite plants. Now
if they only be fragrant they'd brighten a wintery day.
Best, Vicki
